Autism... not a dunce cap. by StrawberryR Autism... not a dunce cap. by StrawberryR
Okay, I'm not trying to hate on heavily autistic people or anything, but I was reading a forum earlier (bad mistake) and this guy said that people with autism were all retards.

THERE'S A DIFFERENCE. I have friends with autism, and a friend with some mental retardation. Autism isn't retardation, it's just a disorder that makes people behave differently. Hell, one of my best friends with Aspergers is in National Honor Society and has a 3.8 GPA. She brags about it all the time.

But see? Autism doesn't make you stupid, being stupid makes you stupid.

My brother has autisum; Asperger's and I really hate when people use it as an insult or an excuse. It is horrible. The people who use it for those things don't now what it's like; Heck, they probably don't even know what it is. My brother is VERY smart so people who say autistic people are stupid, are stupid

for me is like a curse that leads up to insanity, doing the same thing, not functioning well, and giving some people a difficult time
but the curse would go away if someone got help, understand well, improving speech and grammar and come up and do amazing and creative things

I wanna say a few words about autism c:
Autism is a gift and a curse. I myself do have autism. I have been bullied, not just by students but by teachers and parents, since first grade because I was different. Flapped my arms when I got excited or made a weird noise. Clapped my hands around my ears in the classroom because it was too loud. Kids with autism see the world in a way others cannot see it. My mother works with kids with autism as her job and has recently noticed that kids with autism will be spacing out in class but suddenly when the teacher asks something they know they snap back and raise their hand and answer the question. Severely autistic people are smart as well. Very. Go hug my brother and see if you still have your keys in your pocket XD. But no seriously, my brother has severe autism and he is doing 7th grade reading, math, language. But what we dont get. Is why people are always calling us retards and there is always someone around the corner thats going to push us down and laugh....

Sounds like my life. My mom did wonder why I would look like I'm not listening and then I could answer a question correctly.(i was in online school at the time). And noise is very annoying. I will have my hands over my ears when the fire alarm at school goes off.

I have Aspergers just like the girl in the description. I am getting an A in Algebra, an A in High School Level Science (I'm in 8th Grade and taking AP courses), National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, I write for the school newspaper, I have a LOT of friends, and I am part of the Drama Department, Choral and Band Departments. I am a second chair Tuba and an amazing Tenor in Choir.

Autism doesn't make you stupid.

It makes you different.

I have autism, and it makes me sad seeing people who have autism being called 'stupid'.. I feel like when people think about autistic people, they think they don't have friends, stay quiet all the time, or being a loner (I'm sometimes like that, but I have friends..).. Thanks for making this stamp!

I love people who make these kind of stamps because they are true. Autism doesn't mean anything bad so people need to quit saying that. i have a brother and my mom who is autistic and i just despise and hate the people who use autism as an insult. Thank you for making this stamp :)

It pisses me off how people think autism means you're stupid. It's just a matter of needing help in some areas. Which isn't bad, everyone needs help with at least something

As someone with autism, myself, I totally agree with you.  Why, I even created a character as a means to mock those who mock autism.  Here he is: fav.me/d6u5x6t

His name is N. Stan Gatorr (yes, the double-r is deliberate).  He is my evil twin, and has the general mentality of an internet troll.  He's one of those people who "don't like what they don't understand".  He is willing to mock anyone with disabilities, especially autism.  Like I said, before, I was trying to mock those types of people when creating him.  Originally, though, he was created as a means for me to mock the "Arthur" episode, "Arthur's Big Hit" (a.k.a. the episode where they messed up the moral that violence is wrong, specifically by setting it up to potentially teach about respect for others' property).

I have autism, but I am quite smart. When it comes to exams I don't revise, instead relying on my memory to recall information. But I hate the stereotypes related to autistic people.

From what I've noticed with my own Autistic traits Autism is in part not having filters on your senses so you see, hear, and notice everything all at once.

The human mind though cannot process all that input though which results in the brain being overloaded.

Get this. I have Aspergers too just FYI.

I was reading an article explaining the 5x rate of Autism since 07, and it said that TV and Internet are explaining us to more info in one day then out ancestors did in their lifetime. The brain can't handle all that with "normal people" so it has to evolve. Autistic kids can absorb info like a sponge.

Meaning, that the outcast of today may be the next evolution of mankind, and therefore actually superior to those who mock us.

People, with autism are generally SMARTER than normal&. Aspergers is put at the 120+ IQ range to the "normal person's" 100. The big difference is that what we learn easier is what we will need in TODAYS world. What everyone else is learning is what our teachers/parents needed to know. The world is changing, and our brains are keeping pace.
