Okay, I'm not trying to hate on heavily autistic people or anything, but I was reading a forum earlier (bad mistake) and this guy said that people with autism were all retards.
THERE'S A DIFFERENCE. I have friends with autism, and a friend with some mental retardation. Autism isn't retardation, it's just a disorder that makes people behave differently. Hell, one of my best friends with Aspergers is in National Honor Society and has a 3.8 GPA. She brags about it all the time.
But see? Autism doesn't make you stupid, being stupid makes you stupid.

But don't worry. You're blocked now.
My boyfriend's younger sister graduated from a "math, science, and arts" type honor school with top marks and she's autistic.
It's my theory that they're so smart that their brains overload sometimes and make them act differently.
i have a friend who's an autist but he has a special ability to tell which day is it in a certain date and year, for example, when i asked him what day was it in 9 october 2012? and he just answered tuesday and after we checked the calendar he was correct!
and i also have this friend at school who is also an autist but he is totally awesome at math! he won the math Olympics championship stuff a few times already!
and i my self USED to be an autist, and i wasn't even close to stupid, just super hyper that time...
Most people, when they meet an autistic person immediately write them off for being mentally retarded. Especially the severely autistic. I don't know why, but they're treated very similar to how most people treat a person in a wheel chair. They avoid them at all costs. I did not say all.
The dictionary.com definition of Autism is: a pervasive developmental disorder of children, characterized by impaired communication, excessive rigidity, and emotional detachment: now considered one of the autism spectrum disorders. [link]
Nowhere in the definition does it say mental retardation.
I appreciate it when people will go up to my brother or cousin and treat them like any normal person. Sadly, this doesn't happen often enough.
Autistic people are not mentally retarded, they have different social obstacles to get around. It all depends on if you're a severely autistic or a mild autistic. They also have a certain niche (or area), or maybe several, that they excel in.
